Japanese top business leaders still seek nuclear power
September 18- In a rare press conference held jointly by three top business leaders, Tadashi Okamura, chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yasuchika Hasegawa, chairman of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives and Hiromasa Yonekura, chairman of the Japan Business Federation, the nation's most influential business lobby, they criticized the government's decision on Friday that the nation will seek to phase out nuclear power completely sometime in the 2030s. These leaders claimed the government should create the plan 'after a strict investigation from such comprehensive perspectives as safety, stable supply, and security of energy, as well as measures to deal with global warming'.
